Well we can always handwave it offscreen? I mean, the end thing could be the ship just blows up and if someone isn't comfortable with the deaths part, like actually playing them out, if they have a kid or something, it can just be kinda assumed they all died in the explosion. And that could be right before the time travelers go back so it's not like they'd be gone for long?
