Plot and Signups:The Inevitable Tournament Arc!
Let's have a little bit of shonen-style fun.
The Inevitable Tournament Arc is your chance to put your character(s) up against the best of the meatship and a host of NPCs who are good enough to give your character a challenge.
It so happens that every so often, as these things go, a powerful and wealthy conglomerate sponsors a fighting tournament designed specifically to attract powerful fighters of all stripes to compete in front of a crowd that, let's face it, has a perverse love of watching people beat the crap out of each other. The prize this years, designed to attract combatants from worlds (or ships) who are critically low on resources thanks to the great multiversal, is supplies. Metals and mineral ore, wood, the sort of thing that Stacy desperately needs.
So confident is our ship in her fighters that she has laid down an entry wager to get into this tournament. A significant fraction of the animals in Hydroponics and the weapons in the Armory have been put up as the stake. If everyone from the ship loses... well, that's the risk they take, right?
But then again, victorious individuals might also find themselves gaining power in turn...
Here are the rules:
- Unlimited participants. (Yes, really.) As many people can enter as many characters as you want. The only caveat is that if by some quirk of seeding, two characters of yours end up going against each other, you have to decide impartially who wins and you get the pleasure of writing out at least SOMEthing for that battle all by yourself. (By the way, Stacy will actually ask for volunteers IC, rather than picking you guys... unless you really want to put a character in who wouldn't be swayed by the 'we need resources!' or 'you can gain power!' reasons.)
- The plot will begin Monday, April 16. Relatively short notice but without limits, no one should feel left out, I hope. In addition, players may enter the tournament up to the moment it starts... or after, if you have a good RP reason. Seriously, it's a shonen tournament, people wander into those things all the time.
- The tournament will be single-elimination with a hard cap OOC on returning results. The length of that cap will depend on how many people are in, and how early in the tournament it is. We will go NO LONGER THAN THREE WEEKS. That's a limit.
- As a consequence, OOC communication is absolutely key. Checking the master plot post will be mandatory, and if you're up against a fellow player and you can't log out a full battle by the deadline, you will need to work out the victor between the two of you. You can finish the battle, of course! Backtagging is perfectly acceptable! But we gotta keep this moving.
- Speaking of logging, if you want to do it on AIM or Plurk, that's fine. So long as it's IC and follows prose conventions, your transcript can go into the comms, we'll use it for what happened; again just to keep this moving. (Of course, cleaning it up would be ideal.) This offer also extends to any NPCs I'm running.
- There is a Standard Flat Shonen Power Level in effect. During this tournament, player characters are about equal to each other regardless of how gross a mismatch it ought to be. For example, Maxim could parry a punch from Simon's Lagann, or a pastel pony could survive a Dragon Slave by sheer guts. (Though the Dragon Slave never killed anyone above bandit level anyway...) This is purely for fun and dramatic effect, to make sure everyone can give their character a good workout and a good run.
- A victor may choose to demand one power tribute from the person they defeated; that tribute is then theirs to use. For example, if we had a Jedi participating, and he lost to Rainbow Dash, Rainbow Dash could demand his lightsaber. Or his ability to Force-Push. The tournament organizers DO have the abilities necessary to make that transference.
--There are three caveats to power tributes. First, Stacy will not let crew members take powers from one another. She's looking out for the long-term good of the crew by doing so. Second, if your character loses a power to an NPC, you'll have a chance to get it back. Third, some power tributes may not function properly away from their initial wielders, or on the ship. (In other words, gaining a new object or power permanently is subject to mod approval. At the very least you'll have it for the rest of the tournament though.)
-Depending on volume, I may very well need help NPCing! If you are willing to take on an NPC role, let me know. (I, uh, will be stealing pretty liberally from shonen series we will never see an app from, and I have no problems if you do the same.)
