Activity Checks...

So, I know what you're saying to yourselves. "This game doesn't REALLY have activity checks." but it does! That's why we hound people to maintain their tags so we can use them to check activity.

However, as the game gets bigger, it's been getting harder to do that. The mods therefore, would like to use a system like other games use, where we post a post once a month, and others respond to it.

HOWEVER, since having people post links is unwieldy and we care more about making sure the players are still interested than anything else, we would like to put into place a system where the only thing a player has to do is post their name/handle with "is still here!"

So for me it'd be:

SAPHIE is still here!

Then the mods will match up folks to the contact list, discount anyone that said they were hiatused that week. And THERE, activity check is done. Easy-peasy. We'd put the post up on the first of the month, leave it open for a full week (during pdopop), newbies would be exempt, obvsly, and that would be that. We could even tag them "+activity check" or something so people could set a notification to pop up every time we posted using that tag to the ooc.

We'd REALLY like to do this, but we want to put it by the players first, to see how you feel about it and if you have any better ideas. So what say you, Meatshippers? Would that work for you?

Yeah, I actually am too lazy to post links, too. LOL.

But this is nice and easy and yeah, if we noticed someone was lagging for a few months with a particular character, but still around, we'll ask "You sure you still want this guy?" but otherwise we care most that folks are just around, paying attention, and want to do stuff.

My Doctor Lam is very quiet and I've been thinking of dropping her because of it. The laggy with a character thing is something I know well, especially since she really is insanely quiet as a muse.

Muses are weird. :| I should, honestly, just drop Dr. Lam and get it over with.

Entirely up to you. We'll step in if it looks like genuine character squatting, but overall, we're going to trust people to decide for themselves if they still want a particular character or not, largely because people have been good at dropping characters that haven't clicked so far.

I'm guessing people who fail the check for whatever reason are prodded before removal of their characters is considered?

As long as that's the case, I'm fine with this.

Oh yes, that's how it is now, actually. We DO activity checks now already. People who disappear get one email, and a week to respond, and if they don't or say they're dropping, we remove them.

If they DO respond, and start playing within a month, they're cool. But if they do respond, but still don't post within another month, and don't tell us they're hiatusing, and therefore fail TWO activity checks in a row, that's the only time we just drop 'em, because they already got their nudge AND another shot.

And I'm fine with this system too. I've done the links thing before and while I can normally manage it fine due to being neurotic and having a bazillion tabs open for each place my character is it can be a hassle. Dx
