Mod Management post
HEY GUYS, need y'all to weigh in on SIX things. (As well as keep tagging).
1. Chats. Due to the general sporadic-ness of the mods' schedules, sometimes we start chats all over the place, so we were talking about setting aside two days/times a week where we make sure we always ALWAYS make sure at least someone starts the chat. (Between four mods and a bunch of other people, we should be able to manage that, right?)
So my question is this: what two days a week (with times) are your best RPing days? The ones where it's easiest to get into chat and you typically have the most time to fiddle around and be goofy. (A note, if the two days we pick do not suit you, they will NOT be the only days--we try to do chat almost every night if we can, and as early as possible, for the early-timezone peoples. They'll just be the two days we try for when everyone's hit with school busies at once or something, just to keep the place lively until we break through the Busy).
2. Update to the Rules Check 'em out. Added a bit, clarified a bit, after the chat thing is decided, we'll actually pop the chat days in there, under the chat one. Slight change to the character limit that you'll all probably be happy with. Limit has been raised, and no limits to number from a canon, just the closeness limit. Last rule has been added in light of all the mad-crazy love after the RP_anon_meme, because it made me realize how awesome a dynamic we've got going here, and we should always have a little rule-thing reminding us of why we're all here. <3
Is all this kosher with you? Please state y/n + anything you think might need discussion and change or to be added.
3. Tags! LJ TAG YOUR POSTS, PLEASE. ZOMG GUYS, SRSLY. We'll behead you if you don't tag your posts! Stacy will give you an anal probe! It will be terrible. D=
For those who are kinda unfamiliar with lj (since I know a few our newest players are semi-new to LJ RPing) and/or confused as hell because because we use the term "tag" also to mean "post," I mean the little LJ clicky-box version, where it says all the character's names at the bottom of the post and if you click on the little "tag" square in a post (it's next to the edit one) you can pick a bunch of names from the list.
For plot and location, those are aaaall predone and we pop the first one in so it starts to show up when a location first appears or a plot first start. Names are always added in the first podpop the character shows in, so always always go by the list rather than writing something in since sometimes you wind up with doubles (or write it in but just make sure you spell it right). Just make sure y'all tag your character on each post. We now have too many characters really for the mods to keep up and make sure all of you are tagged in (like 60+ characters now), and we REALLY do tend to scout back and read stuff for characters for plot purposes. So right now, I'd like to ask everyone (at least when you have a moment) to go back and make sure you're posts are tagged and respond here with "Tagged for [character] and [character]!" or sommat.
Then from here on out TAG YOUR POSTS OR SAPHIE WILL EAT YOUR FACE. NOM. DELICIOUS FACES.
(Srsly, tho, if you don't, s'okay. I forget a lot too. Just try to keep up with it, if'n you can. Makes it easier).
4. App page tweaked! Some new stuff added, history part tweaked to make it easier on everyone. Is okay? y / n
5. WANTED PAGE. Go forth! Comment! Request for canon-mates.
6. Journal-based RP. Is anyone perhaps interested in turning character journals into the characters' actual journals? I was thinking perhaps that Brainy, Billy, and the tech guys can make everyone comm-rings (since they need comms) but also maybe limited omnicoms. So people have the comm rings for typical instant communication over distances, but can keep written journals other characters can read in their omnicoms. I don't want that to take over the game, though, as I LIKE having the game largely centralized, and don't want to have to update add/drop lists, but it might add a bit of flavor since this is an atmosphere where it would make sense to have them. Is anyone interested in it? Fellow mods, good for the game? Bad for the game? Anyone horribly opposed? (I'd want it to be optional, obviously).
So. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. <--comment!

2. Rules look good! My last game had a rule similar to rule number 1, and it was used as an elastic clause. That's fine in theory, and even necessary, but I've had bad experiences with that sort of thing being stretched too far. I trust you guys though!
3. Sorry boss, I'll get on that straight away. I didn't know non-mods were allowed to edit those.
4. I like the clarification on the types of characters you want apped. Now it's making me consider a Sonic SatAM character...Sally or Bunnie, maybe? Also, in that sentence about the Sonic characters it's 'accept', not 'except'. Goshdarn homophones.
5. Trini and Kim! I might have one or two more Rangers to add to that pile. I'll think about it for a bit.
6. I'm neutral at the moment. I've seen some communities add a separate comm for communicator data, but I guess using the journals makes more sense. It would probably depend on how extensively we end up using our communicators.
(Since I pointed out a grammar error in this post, I'm sure I've made a huge grammar or spelling error soemwhere in my comment. First person to find one gets a cookie :D )

2. We tooootally know what you're talking about. Believe me. We do. Karl an I talked about it today, actually, but yeah, you don't have to worry about anyone every squeaking by on that rule because the mods are too afraid to take action or confront someone. You can trust us to kick butts--possibly out the door--if it's ever needed. We want it elastic because when it's done RIGHT, it means no one can squeak by on technicality, either. ("Even though I'm being a jerk, I didn't technically break any rules, lol!")
3. Yep yep! We left them open so anyone can select or add them. (Although all locations and characters are on the list already now, methinks).
4. We figure if someone has a burning desire for certain guys, we'll give anyone a shot, and some might fit in surprisingly well, but certain types just get by better in the setting, so it's good to spell them out if people are unsure who of theirs to app. And WHOOPS. Will fix.
6. I have no idea how to handle it honestly. I see the appeal, and think it could be a nice addition, but I've never played at a game that had that going on before, just read around. I've also seen a lot of games where it's like the WHOLE game and all the action somehow takes place in their journals and that confuses the heck out of me.

2. Got no issues with the rules. They look good.
3. Noted! I'll make an effort to do this from now on.
4. I fully approve of the change for the history section. I absolutely hate writing them and might as well have just rewritten the wiki page for my character.
And the last two sections get a thumbs up from me. I don't believe they were there before and are good for bringing up issues like I had with Samus and her suit accessibility. It's helpful.
5. Hooray! *Goes forth to request*
6. I think it's a good idea. I dunno, journals are easy to have like short conversations and things without spamming up the main comm. I like it and wouldn't mind the add/drop, but we have to make sure we don't rely too heavily on it.

I think maybe we ought to do it as just optional, but I can do the add/drop lists for it so it's maintained. Once I make up the first one, maintaining is easier. And we should only allow convos on it. During events, they'd be able to communicate real-time with their comms and it makes more sense for them to rather than texting each other (unless we do some plot where speaking can get you killed or something and actually use it plotfully), so no big events portrayed on them--that has to be played out in the comm.
But during relaxed moments, it's almost like texting each other when you're on opposite ends of the ship.
And if people use it too much, rather than having face to face talks, we can always nix it, but I don't foresee that being a problem, really. I imagine people will just use it to supplement their playing rather than AS their playing. Too many hands on things to do.

2. I have no words for how much I love this game. I know that I haven't been super active, especially with chat, because I have a weird, never-the-same schedule, and Real Life apparently hates me whenever big plots start. But you guys are continually awesome and fun, and I plan to stick around as long as y'all will have me. :-)
3. ::salutes:: I will make sure to keep this in mind when I join a thread or start a post! I have a feeling I am one of the people that suck at this tagging thing.
4. Looks good to me! Though I am not planning on apping any new characters anytime soon seeing as I am still getting the hang of the game, so I might not be the best person to ask! :-/
5. As soon as I'm can sit at a computer for more than 10 minutes at a time again, I'm gonna start recruiting. ::ahem::
6. I'm not opposed... I'd kind of have to see it in action first, I think, to have a proper opinion, though, but I'm of the camp that I'll try anything once to see if it works. :-)

1. I think maybe we out to have a friday chat and a weekday chat. That'd cover your schedule both now and then.
6. I think we'll maybe do a trial period. If it gets weird, we can plot it out and can always have that function break down or something or like Stacy steals their thingies because she doesn't like them communicating in a way she can't spy on. With the comms, they have to speak out loud so she can listen in.

2: Yes! A-okay here.
3: Tagged for Sparhawk. And I will try and remember to tag when I post.
4. Looks good on this end! I like the expansion of what you're looking for, gives a few more ideas.
5. Posted.
6. I'm honestly not sure. It might be a good idea in that the growth of the characters can be chronicled, and it could be a way to better get into the head of the character. The only trouble that I could see is the decentralisation issue, but I think that as long as everyone is aware that they're to be used alongside the main comm, and not instead of it, we could be alright.
I hope that was coherent

6. What I said in my above post might work. Trial period and if it gets decentralized, we can plot them out. But I think people will be cool about it.

2. Saturday is always a good day for me right now. Friday and Sundays on alternate weeks. With any luck whatsoever, that'll change next month. Really, really hoping it'll change.

2) Epic sweet! Still, I'm going to sit in a corner and TIE myself to three characters. Whenever I break that number, BAD THINGS HAPPEN. <.<
3) [salutes] Yes'm!
4) You have no idea how badly I wish that was there when I apped Chief! Though I am still pretty proud of myself for managing to get most of Halo canon comprehensibly down to 700 words... XD
I like the added information about what we're looking for, I think it'll help people out a lot.
5) Also yes'm! Though I don't think I can think of anyone right now...
6) I'm not especially into journal games, though I'm not horribly opposed to it. The Chief might make some short, business-like, srs bsns housekeeping sort of entries and Jack might take the opportunity to get some frustration out (he'd hoard it away somewhere if others can read it though), and Bella... is tech illiterate in extremes. But somehow the idea of having a... I dunno, crew noticeboard is crossing my mind as a good idea. My feelings are a little mixed and I'd be willing to try!

2. Read 'em. Like 'em. Love 'em. Good to go.
3. Yay! All mine are updated!
4. LOVES IT! I think it's a good idea since it's probable that many people (like me) go to a wiki to get more details on the characters they app and it's kinda like trans9 is saying "we realize you're doing this...so we'll make it easier on you..."
5. I GOT A DEAN!!! I don't currently have any canon-mate requests that I can think of off the top of my head. My other two chars are pretty good by themselves.
6. Not sure what this is, exactly, but if it's what I think it is, I vote no... I've seen many games (outside of LJ, obviously) where these have become a problem because they have become the primary form of interaction between the characters and basically pull the action away from the actual game. But, like you said, I can opt out of it and if enough of the other players would have fun with that then it's def. something to think about.

4. Dude, I go to a wiki when I app and I'm a mod. XD What I sort of figured was, I mean, we do need the histories for some because if we're unfamiliar with the canon, we want to poke around and make sure the character seems IC, and also we like to know background for plotting, but no one likes writing histories, and other than just having it there for convenience, there's no reason to have it there, so might as well make it so people don't have to write it out. The personality and writing sample are far more telling.
5. YOU DID. I'm glad of that honestly. It's hard finding not finding them already in pairs, because I think a lot of friends buddy up and app places together.
6. What I think might work is having a rule about it or something. Like...you can't actually have any ACTION take place on it. No voiceposts, nothing like that. All it can be is like text messaging almost, and if something actioney happens like a fight or whatever, it has to be happening in an actual thread in the real game, rather than portrayed in a journal post. In other games, I've seen people sort of use as it where action is described and then the action doesn't actually...happen anywhere.
But what I'm thinking is like this: http://lil-hellion.livejournal.com/1856.html
This is from the Marvel game Kaylin, Karl and I played at, and that was a very active game, with all the stuff in the main comm. All the stuff the two characters are talking about was stuff that was threaded out in the main comm (with like a hundred comments or so even), so this just sort of supplemented it, rather than replaced interacting.
They didn't really maintain the friend add/drop lists though so it was harder to do stuff like that, though.
I was thinking maybe we'd arranged it like journal posts, but you're not allowed to use it to play out an event, only have it be like someone writing in a public journal. And for ship business ones, you'd mark it as a public ship bulletin thing.
And it'd be okay if other people didn't check the bulletins because some people don't bother to check bulletin boards and someone else will inevitably tell them what's going on in person anyway.
Like I'd foresee the nerds using it a lot for communication on engineering stuff, Brainy and Billy maybe tapping out ideas on their journals from their bunks before going to bed. The guys like Cybil and Chief maybe doing business-like missives on command structure and ship issues. The teenagers using it to titter over each other.
That kinda thing.
There's enough hands on stuff like the Sensoriums that people would still mostly talk in person and it could even be a topic of conversation. "ZOMG, did you see what Leela said on her omnicom about Dean's butt? [titter titter]" "Shut up, Kara!" "Make me!"
Paco: "CATFIGHT!"
And it'd all start with a trial period. And if it WAS abused or used instead of people talking face to face, even after the trial period, we'd plot them out of the game.
Would that assuage some of your worries? (I know exactly what you're talking about with that, believe me. I don't like journal-only or journal-mostly games myself).

2. Rules look cool to me and very sensible.
3. I'm trying to be better with that since been some fail. Ooops?
4. Ooh will check when I can.
5. Yay for Wanted page.
6. Hmmm I can't do it with mine since I use them in other RPGS in two instances.
(this is TobiasF)
2.looks good
3.I'll try to remmeber to tag
4.looks good. And it reminded me to go tomorrow and join with my apped char's journal
5.Maybe. No, not horribly opposed.
