Away Teams

So, while trying to edit the wiki, I need to update the Away Teams page.

As stated in this post, Away Team Leaders would be assigned a rank to help fill out the Command Staff, so based on who responded here's the list of away team leaders so far:

Suggest a rank for your character (Lt. Commander > Lt. > 2nd Lt. > Ensign > Sergeant) The lower the rank, the less responsibility your character would have. More specific details are outlined here. If anyone else wants their character to be an away team leader, just comment here.

Sergeant or Ensign Connor, maybe? No offense but, really, I can't see anyone in their right mind ICly wanting her to be in charge of anything.

How do Department heads fit into this?

They can sign up for this if they want. They wouldn't actually get a new rank, since being a Department Head in and of itself is a formal title with the equivalent rank/authority of a Lt. Commander.

How much responsibility goes with each rank?

Nnnnnngh, well, I can't say I have the specific duties formally outlined, being relatively flexible (and rather vague) here:


NOTE: All of this is subject to change by the mods at any given time..


Council Members: For obvious Conflict of Interest reasons, won't be assigned a rank. But unless the Captain or First Officer is out in the field with them, they'll probably have full authority on missions.


Lt. Commander: Field General, more or less, and will normally be the highest ranking person in the field for most missions. Participates in Mission Planning. Assists in overseeing all Away Teams, makes sure that they're all properly trained, ready for missions, and so on. They'll also have broader responsibilities on board, mainly assisting all departments to the best of their ability and ensuring that the departments are working together, and that some semblance of order is kept among the crew. Also expected to be leader-y during emergencies.

(NOTE: All Department Heads carry the relative equivalent field rank of Lt. Comm)

Lt: Field Leaders. Specialists, in a sense. Will be responsible for preparing and leading certain types of missions (stealth, recon, search and rescue, and so on), though has to be ready to participate in just about any. Also acts as liaisons between the crew in general, and upper command.

2nd Lt.: Lt's in training. Squad leaders. Is available to assist any department to the best of their abilities. (Likely to be the highest rank given to anyone under the 18-ish or under)

Ensign: Squad leaders. Is available to assist any department to the best of their abilities.

Sergeant: Deputy squad leaders. Leader in a glass case (In case of emergency, break open glass). In charge, normally of very small groups, when no one else is around.

Hrm. Riza's canon ranking is Lieutenant, if that's alright? o.o Either way I'm fine with lower. Yeah.

And like the one below me, based on breakdown... That is, as well, what Riza sort of did already. She's known to do undercover work and being a sniper part of her specialty is stealth. Mustang's branch also covers military/civil relations, and she's an aide most of the time anyways. B|

Based on the breakdown, Dick can be a Lieutenant. Since he already does a bunch of that stuff anyway. He's probably best suited to some diplomatic and stealth missions.

Fate could be a Lieutenant. She's very good with all different mission types, what with being an intergalactic criminal tracker and all. She's also had experience with training and leading teams, at least during her time in Riot Force 6.

Now I would like to have Dustin as a team leader, since he usually tries to force his way up to that role anyways, but I feel like there would be some objections ICly towards moving him up in the ranks. Unless, of course, they're looking at his performance during the Shore Leave plot, and decide to weigh the risk. At any rate he'd be a good Lieutenant, perhaps 2nd Lieutenant or Ensign for sake of flexibility.

And Five would want some sort of leadership role too (though he probably wouldn't go for it as readily as Ten might), but he's not much of a fighter so his authority would be fairly specialized towards leading tech crews and helping the other less physically-oriented departments. So...Ensign, maybe? I'll settle for whatever's available.

Kelly was Bravo leader. But her rank is naval. 8D Petty Officer 2nd Class. Which is roughly equivalent to Sergeant if I'm not mistaken. Though in terms of duties, I think she might besuited for Lt.? Up to you!

I'd like to sign Nova up. But I will think about it and get back to you on that. :D
