Disappearing again

Leaving on Saturday and coming back Tuesday. I'll probably be covered in bug-bites, but hopefully not sunburned.

Any recommendations for dead-tree edition reading materials?

Steampunk series:

The Mortal Engines Quarter (starting with Mortal Engines) by Phillip Reeve

The Bas Lag novels (starting with Perdido Street Station) by China Mieville

Seconding the Perdido Street Station recommendation!

The Diamond Age and Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson are also good, if a bit more cyberpunk-y (and they're very different and completely unrelated, by the way).

Hmm... the Dresden Files series, starting with Storm Front, by Jim Butcher? In a related vein, the Nightside series, starting with Something From the Nightside (or if you can find it, A Walk on the Nightside, which is an omnibus of the first three books), by Simon R. Green. I have a thing for magical private investigators.
