And that's a wrap!

As of the tail end of this thread, the Trojan Horse plot is finished!

People are still free to backthread, or you want to make new threads with characters celebrating, breathing a sigh of relief, or something else in the immediate aftermath, you can feel free. But otherwise, the retrieving of crew members and the (damaged) Quarter's return to Stacy can be otherwise handwaved (though if you guys want, I can put up a post for the Quarter's arrival back at Stacy), and tagging can resume as normal.

EDIT: Post is up for the Quarter's arrival back on Stacy here.

Plot Post Mortem

So what did you guys think? Those of you in it, and those of you who watched. I really would like to know. So if you have any thoughts, comments or concerns about how the plot was run, or any critiques or ways to improve things for the future, you can comment here. If you're a bit uncomfortable with that, you can also privately and anonly leave a note in the mods drop box and they can pass along to me anything they feel is relevant.

I for one would like a hail-the-conquering-heroes kind of post where the Quarter arrives back on Stacy.

Overall I think it went pretty well.

I hate to be the Complainer here and I'm pretty sure you guys will invoke the "Complainer Is Always Wrong" card, but, I feel the plot could have been handled much better.

The big problem here is that these battles are being assumed that we're killing NPC bad guys here. We fire a few shots, but we don't see or hear what happens to them, thus leaving us hanging. There should have been more tags by the Ohm journal than letting us hang there.

Another problem were the last two tags - Leviathan and Final Assault. Everyone was piling onto the Leviathan, especially when it was said "one thread for this", thus leaving Final Assault to completely and utterly be ignored. Your little "Okay, you fought, now go get beat up" kinda utterly backfired there. Perhaps you should have put Leviathan up first, then when the Node was destroyed, THEN put up Final Assault.

And this last part is probably just me, but it's obvious that Blade and Skull doesn't have enough people, so they should combine and suck it up.

I do have to agree with you on a few of those points.

I was asked by Will to have people post only one thread for the Leviathan attack when I posted it, but I do agree that the Ohm could have done a bit more in the attacks. I know there were a bunch of people doing various things, so it was a bit confusing to figure out who was doing what.

And since I also play Hilde who is a member of the Blades, I didn't think that there weren't too few people, but I should have done more with Hilde. I'm still getting used to her and Feldt is a bridge girl on any ship.

YOU'RE WRONG! YOU'RE ALWAYS WRONG ABOUT EVERYTHING!

j/k

Well, on the first point, I kinda have to disagree on that one. Only because several people were playing out what was actually happened to the Ohm that they fired at and were also NPCing for each other. Which, honestly, was fine with me, as it meant that I didn't need to keep close track of every post to see who was doing what and did I need to throw out an npc tag here or there, since there was a lot going on. I did throw out some npc tags where it looked like someone needed a little help to get the ball rolling, but since no one poked me and said "Hey, can I get some npc tags in this thread here?" I just kept hands off and let people do their thing.

You do have a point about the Leviathan/final wave threads. I honestly didn't expect so many people to pile on to that thread, figuring that most people would just stay out of the Quarter's way, and had the final wave thread put up to help finish things faster, and not leave them sitting around and doing nothing for a few days. I also wasn't ncping the leviathan or the node, so I figured one thread would be easier for the person who was. I probably should have specified "semi-closed thread" or something of that nature, but it was already too late by the time I figured that out so I just rolled with it anyway.

Ah well.

And Blade and Skull are outside of my domain, so I'll leave that one alone.

I actually agree with several of your points -- for the most part, the tagging was "pilot comes in, shoots at mooks". It would have been nice if either the ohm journal had tagged more, or if there were some more organization so we could have some intra-squad cohesion and CR. Celestial Being has built-in unit cohesion from being castmates, but that's not as true for Skull (dunno about Blade).

Also, it would have been nice to have more organization in the OOC posts; a lot of time I wasn't sure when the next thread was going to go up, how many threads there were going to be, and which threads it was okay for me to post in. It made it difficult to pace out how involved I should get in each thread and how long I should pace out attacks.

I don't necessarily want Blade and Skull to combine, though. They do different things. Clearly the solution is more people joining Skull

Just hopping in here to throw in my two cents.

The problem with your first point is that for every thread besides the Leviathan thread, Will was on his own for the NPCing. When you have so many people doing their own things fighting off waves and waves of little guys, it becomes ridiculously hard to figure out what to have the NPC's do other than "a bunch more of them died," without writing an essay going over the results of each and every attack for the tag. In this case, since it was mostly little guys (the Shrikes), people could have godmodded the NPC's in their own posts, such as individual attacks and reactions, and left the NPC journal tags for the overall flow of the battle. This would save everyone's time as well as make it easier on the person handling the NPCing.

Now, I will admit this should have been made clear, so we'll keep this in mind for future plots.

As for your second point, I do agree that could have been handled a bit better. I think the final Shrike wave should have been put up first to encourage more people to jump in it, and then have an OOC sign up thing for the Leviathan thread to keep it from getting crowded.

For the third point, I think that's more an IC issue. Just have each of the teams try to recruit more before trying to shove them together.

...we could godmod the NPCs?!?!

Dammit.

Yeah. I thought I had mentioned that, and might have done so in chat, but I left that detail out of the ooc posts. So that's on me for that one.

I'd like to make a suggestion here. Just from previous plot-running experience and reading the plot.

For basic blast-the-suckers npcing, it might a good idea to allow players access to the Ohm account or some other ohm account for the npcing of drone Ohm. Big Ohm that reason for themselves, no, but if they can god the drones in their own posts, it stands to reason they could npc them.

That means the person running a plot like this could recruit official help from other players to npc, give them some basic instructions and they could give players more to react to.

[identity profile] nobel-berserker.livejournal.com 2011-05-05 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Slightly late reply, but I'm at a game where the mods have something similar to what you're saying. Players have access to the NPC account and a few specific characters for things that need to be done but don't necessitate a mod, and it works pretty well for greasing the gears when the mods have a lot to keep track of. So I think this is a pretty good idea.

[identity profile] expendable-mind.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll honestly say I had lots of fun in the plot! Whether it was participating or reading, I got a nice feel of the overall combat and how each team member was reacting to each other (have to give a thumbs up to Allenby for kicking ass with me, and Trudy for scolding mr. hothead pilot here XD).

But I will say it got a bit confusing at times. Not to say a bit of re-reading on my part didn't fix that, but I can see where it might have become a jumble specially when big ol' Leviathan showed it's ugly face

Overall I thought the plot was awesome!

[identity profile] nobel-berserker.livejournal.com 2011-05-05 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Hell yeah, mutual ass-kicking! X3 I had a lot of fun with that too.
