Plot Summary Project!

Hey all! It's your friendly neighborhood mod Karl here with something of an announcement.

The mods have recently been discussing the fact that it is very difficult for players to look up the game's plot history, as well as links to events and information revealed over the game that are common knowledge. Therefore, we've decided to finally kickstart the Plot Summary Project!

The idea is fairly self explanatory. This project aims to go through each and every past plot and major IC event and catalog them in an easy to use format so people can keep up to date on all plots, even ones they haven't participated in. The current format we intend to use will include a detailed enough summary to give a sufficiently thorough understanding of what happened during a plot, as well as provide links to major events and reveals from the plot. The current intention is to add this to the wiki, where individual pages can be made for each plot which are linked to by a single wiki page. If you have another idea for an improved format, however, please say so here.

The current form we will be using is this (please feel free to comment with suggestions for improving this):

Plot Name
Start Date:
[use earliest post tagged for plot if unclear]
End Date: [use last post tagged for plot if unclear]

Overview: [write a condensed summary of all important events in the plot from beginning to end]

Important Information: [post links to parts of threads that contain important pieces of information regarding the plot, such as big reveals or plot exposition]

However, we have three years worth of plot history to go through and catalog, meaning we'll be needing volunteers to help out with this. Mod helpers are automatically volunteered unless they have need to opt out. If you're interested in helping out, comment here! We will try to arrange it such that no person has more than 2 plots to work on, but if we get enough volunteers, we might be able to manage 2 person teams to work on some plots.

Thanks in advance to those who sign up!

I can help out with writing the plot summaries!

Also, maybe for something to be added: People who were involved and their roles if it will help people flesh out their T9!character histories and help the muns out with remembering what their characters have done, especially if they've been in the game a long time.

Hmm...how's about a "Notable participants and NPCs" section on the form, with short blurbs on characters and NPCs with important roles in the plot?

[identity profile] radiantcourage.livejournal.com 2011-07-09 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That totally works! :D

The only problem I see with this is in the old plots, there were upwards of forty characters involved in various aspects sometimes. It's not like the mission plots now, where there's maybe a set number of players. We had some big plots before you were here that had forty different people in each section and then like four or five sections.

So nnnnngh. I think maybe that would only work well for mission plots.

That's totally understandable, yeah. A list of the forty characters involved with a paragraph blurb might work?

also, sorry for not writing more about this. I have to get going to a family function right now!

Maaaybe. I think if the plot helper doing that specific plot wants to do that, it's fine, but for the stuff where it was gamewide, nnnngh. That's a bit daunting to ask all the helpers to go through and catalog.

This is why I suggested just the pups who had big roles be listed

I feel like all we really need are the broad strokes. A lot of the players in those plots left the game and a lot of people track their own plots and CR to know what their own characters were in.

I think maybe if a helper WANTS to do it, it should be an option, but not a requirement.

/slowly raises hand, as long as results don't need to be immediate

Reading through things and summarizing? Something I can be really, really good at.

Second that optionally stating the bigwigs in any plot could be good, but at the same time most important names more or less show up when summarizing, if you're going back and reading through everything. Summaries may also get longer, depending.

Are we looking at nice little plot tag summaries or at also hunting things down outside of given tags?

Obviously things that happened outside of plot tags would be difficult to track down, but if it's possible it would be good, if you had the time.

Karl I may just have cried tears of blood

Yes well I suppose I've done this out of self interest already, and we've got calendars and the like so finding things should be manageable within given dates. Do we care about Omnicomm crossover?

Once again, a good idea, but not necessary.

I can do this!

[identity profile] 8wings.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I'd like to help.

Would it be acceptable to create tags on the comm section for the various plots and add them to the posts, to make things easier to find?

[identity profile] heroic-derp.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
That might be useful for later plots, but for now, we'll just focus on getting the summaries worked on. I don't think everyone's going to have the time to look up corresponding channel posts while working on the summaries for older plots.
