Hello everyone! This is Eileen with character #3, Ezri Dax from that most wonderful of series, Star Trek: Deep Space 9!
Ezri is both in her 20s and in her... several centuries. This is because she is a joined Trill, although it kind of happened in an emergency and she had to figure out how to juggle eight lifetimes' worth of memories and personality really quickly. I'm taking her from the end of the series, so at least she won't be introducing herself as Curzon to anybody.
So who's Dax? This is Dax. Dax is a Trill symbiont; Ezri is a Trill host. They're physically and mentally joined and if they are separated, they will both die within 93 hours unless they're put back together. (Or unless Ezri finds a new symbiont / Dax is implanted into a new host, but we're kind of short on Trill out here.) The symbiont is located in a pouch on Ezri's abdomen.
Ezri often refers to previous hosts, so don't be surprised if she starts talking about Torias or Tobin or Emony (but not Joran, he was not nice and killed a few people). They were all her! Sort of. Where Ezri ends and Dax begins is compared, in-universe, to asking where the salt ends and water begins--you can boil off the water and put the salt in a new liquid, making a new and distinct mixture but not changing the components.
Ezri is a trained counselor, but she didn't actually finish her official studies, so she's good at figuring out your problems but is less great at figuring out how to fix them. Nevertheless, she will want to take up that job again, so I have put up a handy info post here about that!

If you like the idea of Star Trek having longer storylines with a larger cast, exploration of moral grey areas, and the effects of war on Federation society and Starfleet, then you may like DS9 better.
If you like adventure-of-the-week with two-parters over season breaks and a very idealistic vision of humanity's future (and Q), you will probably prefer TNG.
I adore both, but I like DS9 better than TNG.

hur hurcharacters, in my opinion. But both series do have quite a lot to recommend them, so I do advise checking it out!no subject
But hey, at least he's probably not going to try and trap her in a pit for three days?

I loved the Daxes when I watched DS9. We need more Trek folks! (And Schmuz should meet more people.)

although in technical scientific terms symbiote is an umbrella term that encompasses parasites, hangers-on, and mutually beneficial organismsDaxes are great, and I think she'd be very interested to meet Schmuz too.

I am so stoked to play with her! And I will fill out the therapy post shortly. :D
